Join a Health Canada Approved Study on Blood Sugar Control
Are you living with Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes?
If you’ve been diagnosed and are not currently taking GLP-1 medications like semaglutide (Ozempic®, or Wegovy), you may be eligible to participate in a clinical trial testing a natural health investigational product — both on its own and in combination with semaglutide
About this Study:
Researchers are exploring whether a natural health product can support blood sugar control in adults with prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes on its own, or when it is combined with semaglutide (Ozempic®, or Wegovy).
Diabetes is a major public health concern in North America. Nearly 1 in 10 adults are affected by this chronic disease, and Type 2 Diabetes accounts for the majority of the cases. Managing blood sugar is critical for long-term health. While dietary and lifestyle changes are important, some individuals need additional support from medications to maintain healthy glucose (blood sugar) levels.
Subcutaneous semaglutide, is a medication approved for adults with Type 2 diabetes to help improve blood sugar control. Its safety and effectiveness have been thoroughly studied, leading to approval by both Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. While semaglutide works well on its own, researchers are exploring whether natural health products may provide additional benefits for blood sugar management in both prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes.
Why does this Research Matter?
By joining this study, you may help researchers discover whether natural health options can provide added benefits alongside approved treatments.
To be eligible, you must have prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes and be a candidate for semaglutide therapy under Ontario health standard care. You must also not have taken GLP-1 medications (such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Saxenda®, Victoza®, or Trulicity®) or any other medication to reduce blood sugar levels.
What's Involved?
If you qualify, your participation will last about 4 months and include:
- 3 clinic visits (plus one screening visit)
- Questionnaires
- Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
- Blood samples
- Use of a natural health product or placebo
- Daily supplement or placebo for 84 days
You’ll receive $600 compensation for your time and contribute to important research that may help others in the future.
